Aim and Scope:

The Bangladesh Journal of Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases (BJGLD) is the official peer-reviewed, biannual publication of the Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society.  It publishes two issues on January and June of each year. The journal upholds the Society's mission to advance digestive and liver health through excellence in education and research.

Aims:

  • To provide a premier national platform for disseminating high-quality clinical and scientific research in gastroenterology and hepatology.
  • To foster academic exchange and collaboration among healthcare professionals in Bangladesh and the region.
  • To contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders.
  • To support the educational goals of the Bangladesh Gastroenterology Society by publishing work that guides clinical practice and informs health policy.

Scope:
The journal welcomes submissions reporting original research that contributes significantly to the field. This includes, but is not limited to, clinical studies, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and related molecular genetics concerning:

  • Gastroenterology: Disorders of the esophagus, stomach, intestines, and pancreas.
  • Hepatology: All aspects of acute and chronic liver disease, including viral hepatitis, metabolic liver diseases, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
  • Endoscopy: Innovations and outcomes in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Nutrition and Digestive Health.

Peer Review Process

To ensure the publication of scientifically rigorous and ethically sound research, all manuscripts submitted to BJGLD undergo a confidential, double-blind peer-review process.

  1. Initial Check: Upon submission, the editorial office performs a technical check for completeness, adherence to author guidelines, and screening for plagiarism.
  2. Editorial Assessment: The Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Associate Editor evaluates the manuscript's suitability, originality, and methodological soundness. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's standards may be rejected at this stage.
  3. Peer Review: Suitable manuscripts are sent to at least two independent, external expert reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the manuscript's subject area. The journal operates a double-blind review system where the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed.
  4. Decision: The Editor-in-Chief makes a final decision based on the reviewers' comments and recommendations. Possible decisions are:
  • Accept
  • Minor Revisions
  • Major Revisions
  • Reject
  1. Revision: If invited to revise, authors must submit a revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments.
  2. Final Acceptance and Production: Once accepted, manuscripts are copyedited and prepared for publication in the next available issue. As an open-access journal, BJGLD makes all content freely available to the public upon publication to support global knowledge exchange.
